Costa Rica has had international airline service to San Jose, the capital city, for decades. There are San Jose (SJO) arrivals from and departures to all continents on a wide variety of carriers. To get to the North Pacific Coast after arriving in San Jose, you can take a ½ hour domestic flight on Sansa or NatureAir to Liberia or Tamarindo, rent a car for the 5-hour drive, or arrange other ground transfers. International service to Liberia, Costa Rica, is relatively new; beginning at the end of 2002. The service to and from Liberia (LIR) consists of a rapidly growing volume of scheduled and charter flights from the United States and Canada. The next high season already expects more than 50 weekly flights. All the prime beach locations on Costa Rica’s North Pacific Coast are within an hour’s ground transportation of this new airport, which is why passenger volume through Liberia is skyrocketing. Scheduled International: Air Canada – Toronto Charter International: Falcon Air Scheduled Domestic: NatureAir also has limited international service to Granada, Nicaragua from Liberia.
